We strive to challenge our patrons to experience different productions at Theatre 29. We also understand that certain works may not resonate with everyone. To help our patrons determine which shows are appropriate for their families, we have developed an audience content ratings system that provides insights into what to expect from each performance.
We provide production age recommendations for each show, trusting that you, as a parent, are the best judge of what is suitable for your family. In most cases, all ages will be admitted, but for patrons under the recommended age, parents are strongly cautioned regarding the content.
Our audience content ratings are determined by evaluating three areas: language, adult content, and violence. The highest age rating reflects our recommendation, ensuring that all potential content issues are addressed.
(Example: If a show receives a rating of 16+ for violence, but only a 10+ rating for language, the Theatre 29 show ratings will show it as recommended for 16+ due to language and violence.)
All ages: This production contains no offensive language at any time. Therefore, it is suitable for all audience content ratings, with no references inappropriate for young children.
10+: This category features infrequent mild adult language. However, it remains appropriate for younger children, aligning with Theatre 29 show ratings.
13+: In this category, some adult language is present (moderate), and it may include mild references to adult topics.
16+: This production includes severe adult language, which can be frequent, and may also contain some adult references that are not suitable for children, according to production age recommendations.
18+: The content here contains severe adult language, with frequent occurrences and may include graphic descriptions of adult content.
Note: Mild cursing comprises curse words but excludes religious cursing or the f-word. Moderate cursing includes curse words and religious slurs, excluding the f-word. Severe cursing encompasses all curse words and religious slurs, including the f-word.
All ages: All content is appropriate for all ages, making it suitable for a broad audience.
10+: This audience content rating may address adult topics, including death and divorce, and might contain mild adult situations such as smoking or drinking. Indirect references to sexuality may also be present.
13+: With this production age recommendation, content may explore adult subject matter, including drug use, violence, and suicide. It could also depict adult situations such as substance abuse and may feature direct references to sexuality as well as mild sexual situations.
16+: Theatre 29 show ratings in this category may include partial nudity and suggestive sexual content, alongside direct depictions of adult themes such as suicide, illegal activities, and drug use.
18+: The show may feature full frontal nudity and explicit, graphic situations. Depending on content, minors may not be admitted, so it's advised to contact the box office for more information regarding age restrictions.
All ages: This Theatre 29 show may contain mild slapstick humor or typical fairy-tale situations, with characters facing brief moments of mild peril that would not disturb the vast majority of young children, in line with audience content ratings.
10+: The show may feature highly comedic violence and situations that could be frightening for young children, reflecting its production age recommendations.
13+: Expect infrequent violence, such as slaps or basic swordplay, and situations that might be alarming for children, as per the Theatre 29 show ratings.
16+: This show could include frequent and moderate violence, encompassing gun violence and death, along with intense and frightening scenarios for children, based on audience content ratings.
18+: The performance features graphic violence and may be disturbing for some adults, making it inappropriate for children according to the production age recommendations.
