THEATRE 29 SUMMER 2018 YOUTH THEATRE PROGRAM
The 2018 Theatre 29 Summer Youth Theater program is well into the program, with students and staff members are ready for this exciting educational experience in the live arts!
The program will run Monday Through Friday from June 25 through July 29, 2018, (4th of July off) culminating with two performances of “Mary Poppins Jr.” set for each day, July 27, 28, 29, 2018. The Youth Theater Program and the performances will all be held at the Theatre 29 building at 73637 Sullivan Road in the City of Twentynine Palms.
The program will break into two age groups of 30 students each with “Juniors” (7-11 years old) meeting from 10:00 am – 12 noon. The “Seniors” (age 12-17) will meet from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. The cost for the Program is $60.00 per student. (A grant from U.S. Bank is keeping our program fee low)
The program will teach a wide variety of theatrical skills, including auditioning, acting, singing for Musical Theater, Choreography, costuming, make-up, props, backstage skills, set construction, lighting, sound, and box office management.
3-5 students in each age group will be identified as “Stage Crew” and will be primarily responsible for building and painting sets, building props, and working backstage during the productions. They will also run the lighting and sound boards during the shows.
All students who are applying must agree to be in attendance for the entire month-long program. After an initial orientation session June 25th, Parents/Guardians will not be able to attend. Students will supply their own basic costumes; Theatre 29 will supply specialty pieces and other details for more complex costuming. Meals will not be provided; water will be available at no charge. Parents/Guardian must agree to drop off students up to 15 minutes before the session, and pick them up within 15 minutes of the end of the session. No Cell Phones will be allowed during sessions.
Applications will be available only at www.theatre29.org, the Twentynine Palms Park and Recreation offices, the Yucca Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the Z107.7 studios in Joshua Tree and must be turned in to an address on the application by June 15, 2018. The first 30 applicants approved in each age group will be notified via e-mail, the rest will be placed on a waiting list. Payment in full is due by June 22nd, if payment is not made by the due date, the applicant will lose their place in the program and additional applicants will be taken from the waiting list.
If the fee is a hinderance to attendance, apply for a scholarship on the application form, you will be informed if your application for a scholarship is accepted.
The Theatre 29 Summer Youth Theater Program will be presented by experienced Theatre 29 volunteers. Gary Daigneault is the Program Director. The Musical, “Mary Poppins Jr.” will be directed by Daigneault for the “Seniors”, Char Childs will direct the “Juniors”. The Musical Director for the program is Bianca Stoker, Choreographer is Lisa Goldberg, Cindy Daigneault will coordinate the costuming.
The Theatre 29 Summer 2018 Youth Theater Program has received permission from Disney to produce a DVD of the performance which will be made available for each student. They will also get a CD or Mp3 file of the music, their script to keep, a Program T-Shirt, and friends, memories and skills to last a lifetime! The last performance will culminate in a “Cast Pizza Party” July 29th.
